A quick Sudoku work break: choose one deduction

For a short work break, choose one Sudoku question rather than committing to solve a whole grid. A missing digit, a unique candidate location, or a corrected entry is a concrete stopping point. The main nine-by-nine puzzle does not guarantee completion within five minutes or a productivity benefit afterward.

How to play

Sudoku rules

Fill each row, column, and 3 × 3 box with the digits 1–9 without repeats. Bold digits are fixed clues. Select a cell, then a number. Conflicts highlight duplicates; the absence of a conflict does not prove an entry is correct. Hint fills one cell with its solution value. Erase clears the selected entry; Undo restores the previous move. New puzzles have a unique solution.

Give the break its own stopping point

Decide when you will return to the other task before getting absorbed in the grid. You can stop when the time you chose is over, even if the current deduction is unfinished. A similar number of empty squares does not mean two puzzles will require similar reasoning or time.

The main board uses digits 1 through 9 in each row, column, and three-by-three box. Start with a group that has few unknowns rather than scanning all 81 cells without a specific question. A useful first target is one place where you can explain why all alternatives have been eliminated. Speed is not a condition of making that explanation valid.

Turn a nearly complete group into a checkable task

Suppose a row contains 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9, leaving one blank. Its missing digit is 5. Before entering it, check the blank’s column and box, especially if some of the eight visible values are your own earlier entries. A mistaken earlier value can make a simple missing-digit argument misleading.

Another small task is finding the only place for a digit within a box. If every empty location except one is excluded by a row or column, that last location must contain it. This is stronger than finding a cell where the digit merely avoids an immediate conflict. A duplicate warning and a complete proof of a correct entry answer different questions.

Make corrections without undoing unrelated work

Clear removes the selected editable value; Undo returns to a preceding action. If you noticed an old questionable entry after working in another area, repeatedly undoing may reverse decisions you intended to keep. Identify the cell and intended change before choosing the control.

A hint gives a correct cell value and can help you continue. It should be recognized as assistance rather than as evidence that every previous entry is correct. After accepting a hint, examine what it changes in the relevant groups. You do not have to turn it into a requirement to finish the rest of the puzzle before your break ends.

Pause instead of inventing a rushed finish

Leave an uncertain cell unresolved if you lack enough information. Writing a plausible number because the break is nearly over does not make it a deduction. Pause keeps a different intention from resetting or choosing a fresh puzzle, so check a confirmation before replacing the current position.

Local progress depends on storage being available and retained in the same browser. It is not a shared account across devices. On a shared computer, another person using that browser may encounter the local board. When you return, inspect which values are original clues and which you entered before relying on a remembered argument.

Respect access rules and keep claims about the break modest

The game needs no player account or installation, but a browser format does not override workplace policy. Use an appropriate device and connection where playing is permitted. The site does not bypass filters or promise to make a restricted network usable for games.

No round establishes better concentration, higher productivity, or a medical benefit. You can decide whether the activity fits the voluntary break you intended without making those claims. Before leaving, note a specific question mentally, such as the possible locations of 7 in one box. That is enough context to resume by choice later, rather than carrying an obligation to win or make up for unfinished sessions.

Frequently asked questions

Will a round finish in five minutes?

No fixed completion time is guaranteed. You can choose five minutes as your own break limit.

Can I stop with the puzzle unfinished?

Yes. Use Pause rather than forcing an unsupported entry or confirming a reset.

What small task should I try first?

Look for one missing digit or the only possible location of a digit in a group.

Does the game bypass work filters?

No. Follow the policies of your workplace, device, and network.

Does playing prove better focus afterward?

No. The site does not establish a professional or medical outcome from a round.
